Nissan recalls 2011 Rogue over power steering concern |
|
Dec 05, 2011 - 2:51 PM - by Nissan Forum
|

Nissan and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have announced a recall for certain 2011 Rogue models. Some vehicles may have been manufactured with an incorrectly installed circuit board within the vehicle's electronic power steering assist control unit. Nissan says that, as a result, the terminal may experience additional stress on the circuit board's solder, which could eventually result in a failure. Such a failure could cause the power steering assist to stop working altogether, which may increase the amount of effort it takes to steer the vehicle and result in a crash.
A total of 7,365 2011 Nissan Rogue models are covered in the recall, and owners can expect to be notified by... [Read More]

Nissan introducing three new trick safety technologies |
|
Dec 02, 2011 - 10:08 PM - by Nissan Forum
|
Filed under: Safety, Technology, Videos, Infiniti, Nissan

In the last few years, Infiniti has joined the ranks of the Germans by offering a range of enhanced active safety features on its higher-end models. But Nissan wants to bring many of these systems to its core models, including blind spot and lane departure warnings.
But that's old hat now.
This week in Japan, Nissan demonstrated three new safety technologies that are bound for both Infiniti and Nissan models in the next few years, two of which are sure to be copied by other automakers in short order.Continue... [Read More]

Nissan shows us its new and improved Continuously Variable Transmission |

Finally, A CVT That Doesn't Suck

Continuously variable transmissions have been the bane of our enthusiast existence since... well... forever. An endless, droning tone coupled with the dreaded "rubber band" effect has relegated the gearboxes to rolling appliances and miserable fuel misers - save for one particular sedan.
It's not just an improvement, this is the best driving CVT yet.
When Nissan debuted the new Maxima and revived the "Four-Door Sports Car" name, we wanted to love it. Then we saw one glaring omission on the spec sheet: a manual gearbox. Nissan wouldn't offer the Maxima with a stick, and to add insult to injury, the reborn 4DSC would only be available with a CVT. That bitter taste in the back of our throats - disappointment.
But then we drove it. And it wasn't THAT bad. The six faux ratios were a bit of a joke, but they worked, and everything from the seating position to the chassis tuning were better... [Read More]

Nismo Leaf Nismo Concept is a look at the future of performance EVs, but don't expect |

Sitting inside Nissan's Smart House perched above the automaker's booth here at the Tokyo Motor Show was a fitting setting to talk about Nissan's plans for future electric vehicles. The mock building was being powered by a Leaf, with the EV parked below and connected through the Leaf-to-Home system. Within a few minutes of starting my interview with Hideaki Watanabe, Nissan's corporate VP of the Zero Emissions Business Unit, the lights flickered on and the ceiling fan began to spin. For a country just beginning to recover from the March 11th tsunami, being able to pull extra energy from an EV during a blackout would be indispensable. But that's not why I'm sitting down... Nissan Pivo 3 inches closer to production |
|
Nov 30, 2011 - 3:02 PM - by Nissan Forum
|
Filed under: Concept Cars, Coupe, Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan, Electric

Every other year, Nissan trots out another Pivo concept to the Tokyo Motor Show, and each successive version is weirder than the next. But this latest version - the predictably named Pivo 3 - is different. Nissan wants to build it, and while its awkward shape and trick doors won't make it to production, much of the underlying tech will.
Since 2005, each Pivo has featured some four-wheel-steering system, and the Pivo 3 takes it to the next level with a 6.6-foot turning radius that can practically... [Read More]

Nissan Juke Nismo Concept isn't a sure thing, yet |
|
Nov 30, 2011 - 2:42 AM - by Nissan Forum
|
Filed under: Concept Cars, Performance, Tokyo Motor Show, Hatchback, Nissan

With Nismo set to expand its scope and product range in the coming years, Nissan's in-house tuning division needs to start with something both customizable and attainable. And it appears the Juke is it.
Nismo has done the standard cadre of mods to the Juke, including the fitment of larger Brembo brakes with slotted rotors up front, stiffer springs and shocks, 19-inch wheels with performance rubber and an assortment of interior baubles to match the racy exterior. The body kit... [Read More]

Nissan fuel cell vehicle on track for 2015 |
|
Nov 29, 2011 - 7:43 PM - by Nissan Forum
|

With over 20,000 Leafs running around the planet, Nissan is looking to introduce yet another alt-powered vehicle to the world, and judging by its recent work with fuel cells, a hydrogen-powered vehicle could be here in about four years.
Today in Japan, Nissan showed off its next-generation fuel cell stack, the one that the automaker has claimed has the world's best power density for its size. Compared to the 2005 model (above, left), the new fuel cell (above, right) has 2.5-times more storage capacity while being both smaller and lighter than its predecessor. Weight is down from 265 pounds to just under 90 pounds and output is up to 2.5 kilowatts per liter.
This third-generation... [Read More]

2013 Nissan Altima to swap V6 for supercharged 2.5-liter hybrid |
|
Nov 29, 2011 - 2:34 PM - by Nissan Forum
|
Filed under: Hybrid, Sedan, Geneva Motor Show, Nissan

Every automaker is intent on downsizing its engines and adding some kind of hybrid component to its vehicles, and Nissan is no different. Today in Japan, Nissan introduced its latest in-house-developed hybrid drive system, comprised of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a compact lithium-ion battery pack. But here's the kicker: it's packing a twin-screw supercharger on top.
According to engineers we spoke with, that means the same output as Nissan's tried-and-true 3.5-liter V6 - somewhere in the neighborhood of 260 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque - all while returning fuel economy improvements of up to 10 percent when mated to Nissan's all-new continuously variable transmission (expect more on that later).
Engineers claim that the torque curve of the new supercharged mill is nearly... [Read More]
